Marian Hossa has signed a 12-year deal in Chicago, worth $62.4 million in total. That parlays into a $5.2 million cap hit over the duration of the deal. This deal now adds a huge offensive boost to the Blackhawks, who were already in great shape when it came to scoring goals and it comes at a very reasonable cap hit to do so.
Hossa had himself a great season in 2009, scoring 40 goals and adding 31 assists in 74 games with the Red Wings, helping them to a great record in the Western Conference. Hossa was also quite good leading up to the Stanley Cup Finals, where he disappeared when it came time to face the Penguins. Hossa should be considered a great pick-up for the Blackhawks and should mesh well with the young centres they have on the team. That being said, he should be an even better fantasy draft pick-up, now that he's in Chicago.
More on the cap situation for Chicago will come later on in the day, thanks to some more signings.
