More defenseman injury woes for the Penguins today, as Alex Goligoski will now be out of the line-up for up to three weeks with an unspecified lower-body injury. The Penguins already have Sergei Gonchar, Kris Letang and Brooks Orpik out of their regular blueline six, which doesn't leave the Penguins with much.
On Monday night, the Penguins are at home to the Anaheim Ducks and only Jay McKee, Mark Eaton and Martin Skoula have real good NHL experience.
Going back to Goligoski, he has had a pretty good start to the season, scoring six goals and 8 assists in 20 games for the Penguins before his injury. Goligoski was getting some serious minutes with all the injuries on the blueline, seeing as much as 28 minutes in a couple games over the past couple weeks. The minutes that are being lost by Penguins defensemen are getting harder and harder to fill.
In the Draft, Goligoski is a pick of Ryan's and was helping him out in a pretty good defenseman foursome this year. His foursome ranked sixth among all pool teams in defenseman scoring, which is pretty good, but these minutes and points will be dearly missed. His injury may not be substantial enough to sub out in this week's Waiver Draft though, but we'll have to see what Ryan has to say about that.
On the Sheet, Goligoski is on six active team rosters in Box 28. Going into his injury, he led all defensemen in his box with 14 points.
