Smyth Out One Month

Will the injuries every quit? Next up on the block is Ryan Smyth, who was noted as to leaving the last game with an upper-body injury. Well, it turns out that the injury does seem to be a little more serious than not, the injury, although unspecified, will keep the forward out of the line-up for at least a month. This is a pretty big blow to the Kings and their top line, which also has Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams.

Smyth leaves the line-up ranked 20th in pool scoring among all players, scoring nine goals and 14 assists in the first 22 games of the season. That's just over a point-per-game, which is a pretty good stat to have at any time in the season.

The Kings are at home tonight against the Flyers and they will be trying Alexander Frolov in Smyth's spot tonight.

ImplicationsIn the Draft, Smyth has been a key part of Stacey's run in the race for the money, heading into Week Eight. Stacey will start Wednesday night in fifth, six points out of the money and the points that are lost here by Smyth could be huge. At the time of the post, Stacey has yet to make his drop and pick for his first round Waiver Draft selection... does Smyth make that cut?

Smyth is an occupant of Box 3, one of the key scoring boxes in the pool... so it will be interesting to see if he gets swapped out, because a month is a significant portion of the season.
