A mysterious upper-body injury kept defenseman Jordan Leopold out of the Sabres line-up on Saturday night. There hasn't been much more than that released in the news, so there isn't too much more to report on this, although it did spark some unjustified trade speculation, especially since the Sabres are only 2 points out of a playoff spot, with two games in hand on 8th place. If the Sabres decided to be sellers in the next 24 hours, Leopold would be a healthy candidate.
Leopold officially becomes Wayne H.'s fifth player on the injury list, who is still actually injured at the moment. Talk about a real run of bad luck over the last couple weeks. Fortunately, he is still 6 points clear of the Basement Dweller in Week Twenty-One and is still ahead of four other teams to stay away from that distinction as well.
A bout of back spasms were enough to keep veteran defenseman Brian Rafalski out of the line-up for the Red Wings on Saturday night. It doesn't sound like they are too serious, as Rafalski does hope to be in the line-up for Detroit on Monday night, but with the team in a safe position in the standings, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they gave one of their key players another night off, just because.
Anything Wayne could do, Neil B. could do better... Neil has six players currently on the shelf, including Rafalski from Saturday night to Wayne's five and has 24 points in the weekly race, which is actually twice as impressive. Neil still sits in 17th place in the standings, but he's keeping himself from falling any further behind.
