The Anaheim Ducks were without their captain, Ryan Getzlaf, on Wednesday night against the Kings, as the big power forward was away from the team, attending to his wife, who was in labour that day/evening. I would imagine that he'll be back in the line-up this weekend, refreshed and ready to play after such a happy event.
Getzlaf has already missed a lot of time this season for Clayton C., who sits a long ways down in the standings, in 18th, but he's trying to move up to 17th, so a return would be nice. He is also 14th in the third segment standings through a couple weeks, so I don't think he's counting any chickens there either.
During practice earlier in the week, Saku Koivu suffered a groin injury, was kept out of practice on Tuesday for precautionary reasons and then was not deemed ready to go for the game last night against the Kings. Koivu is listed as out day-to-day with the injury, but it is hard to tell when he'll be good to go again.
The Senators had to scratch their young ace defenseman Erik Karlsson on Wednesday night, because of an upper-body injury, which he reportedly tweaked in the hours leading up to the game against the Panthers. There has been no update as to the nature of the injury or how long Karlsson will be out of the line-up with it. He'll just be day-to-day for right now.
Larry D. has both Koivu and Karlsson in the draft this year and a couple minor injuries are only compounding a pretty bad year, in terms of injuries, for him this season. Larry was running in the middle of the pack through 18 weeks, but has suddenly dropped off in the third segment, now tied for last in points with 48 and has now sunk down to 14th in the standings.
