On Wednesday morning, news dropped that the Anaheim Ducks have called up Ray Emery from the AHL, this after a pretty good set of appearances with the Ducks' farm team in Syracuse. Emery signed with the Ducks a couple of weeks ago after being medically cleared to resume his career after major hip surgery and has since put up a 2-1-0 record with the Syracuse Crunch and is ready to play again in the NHL.
Now, although Emery will not have a direct effect on any of the regular season pools, meaning none of his points will count, his recall may be a signal of the bad news I was foretelling about in his signing post, that Jonas Hiller's injury may be more severe and the need for some cheap help is imperative. Well, with Hiller still on the shelf and Curtis McElhinney struggling in his spot, Emery is the next best solution.
The question then becomes, at what point does Emery assume the back-up (or starting) job, so I can start thinking about where the Ducks will finish for the playoff pool. Stay tuned for that...
