It was kind of strange to see Ryan Miller's name in the scratches box for the game between the Sabres and the Canadiens on Tuesday night, but after starting 31 straight games for his club, the coaching staff wanted him to take a complete night off, not having to worry about getting dressed, sitting on the bench and hoping that he doesn't have to go into the game cold. No, the Sabres called up Jhonas Enroth from the AHL, gave him the start and let Miller enjoy the game from the press box as a scratch. A proper night off.
This should be of no concern to Benson G., you know, beyond not getting a goaltender start on Tuesday night. Benson's team continues to drop points in the standings, now falling to 10 points out of the money after Tuesday night's games and is only 1 point up on 7th place, 3 points up on 8th. Miller should be back in the net tonight against Toronto, so there is a silver lining in there somewhere.
The Senators didn't have a good night with their defensemen on Tuesday night, losing Chris Campoli (see the sheet player scratches) and also losing Sergei Gonchar to a lower-body injury. That forced Ottawa to finish their game against the Islanders with only four defensemen. Much like the Campoli situation, there hasn't been a great deal made available from the Senators after the game on Tuesday, so we're currently waiting to see what the extent of the damage is.
Waiting more impatiently than the rest of us is Peter H., who has Gonchar in the draft this season. Peter is sitting 9 points out of the top 10 in 11th place after Tuesday night's action. It's hard to say anything more about Peter's position, since we don't really know what Gonchar has or how long he'll be out.
