The New Jersey Devils have called up goalie Mike McKenna to back up Johan Hedberg on Tuesday night, as Martin Brodeur is sidelined with a slight knee sprain. Brodeur left the game on Sunday afternoon during the 1st intermission and didn't return and he is now listed as day-to-day with the injury. Brodeur had an MRI on the injury, but it didn't reveal anything that would keep him out of the line-up for an extended period of time. There is no timetable for his return, but his competitive spirit should see to a speedy recovery.
Trying to climb out of the basement without his 1st round pick will be awfully difficult for Clayton C., who has been having a pretty decent run over the past few weeks. He is currently 19 points out of a tie for 16th place and 31 points up on 19th, so there's a good chance he'll finish in 18th again this week.
The Washington Capitals are not expecting defenseman Mike Green to go on Tuesday, after taking a slapshot to the side of the head on the weekend. Green had left the game as a bloody mess, but it doesn't sound like the injury is too serious, as he should be back in the line-up by the weekend. We'll just consider him out day-to-day with an upper-body injury for now.
Green belongs to Larry D. this season and he's likely rather disappointed with Green's season to date. Larry is currently in 12th spot, only 7 points out of the top 10 and 46 points out of the money. He'd need Green to be at his very best for the stretch run to have at least a shot at the money.
