2011 6th Round Draft Pick

Well, if you're wondering where the Islanders new goaltender has come from when he dresses for the team on the weekend, here it is. The Islanders have acquired Al Montoya from the Coyotes on Wednesday night for a late round draft pick this Summer.

Montoya has already been traded once in his short professional career, drafted by the Rangers, dealt to the Coyotes in 2008, but has failed to really make a splash at the NHL level. Montoya has had five appearances in his NHL career, all at the end of the 2009 season with the Coyotes, picking up a 3-1-0 record in that time, including a shutout.

With all the goaltending either getting traded or injured, the Islanders had a desperate need to fill some gaps and they have with this move for Montoya. Montoya should join the team when they return home from Montreal, where they play on Thursday night. The Islanders will host Pittsburgh on Friday night, which could very well be his first start.
