After taking a Taylor Hall wrist shot to the face, James Wisniewski was taken to a local hospital in Edmonton for some precautionary measures Thursday night. The puck hit the veteran defenseman just below one of his eyes was bleeding considerably when he was down on the ice. There is no word as to whether or not Wisniewski will be ready to play in the Heritage Classic on Sunday or not, but we'll keep you informed.
In the third segment standings, Larry is tied for 16th in the rankings with 35 points and is now 17 points out of 1st place with still seven weeks to play in the regular season. The loss of Wisniewski should be short, barring any brain injuries that may have been sustained.
In the Thrashers and Coyotes game on Thursday night, defenseman Ed Jovanovski left the game with what was described as an upper-body injury. No more details have emerged about the injury itself, but I would imagine that we will hear something on Friday, since the team will likely practice at home before flying out to Nashville for Saturday's game. If the injury is serious, we'll likely see the team leave Jovanovski behind and make an announcement.
This is just another hit to Neil B.'s season, as his players can't seem to stay off of the injury page these days. Neil currently ranks 19th in the third segment's scoring race with 32 points, already 20 points behind the leader and it doesn't look like he'll be able to reel those points back in with so many players getting hurt.
