In net for the Carolina Hurricanes will be the same duo as they had last season. Cam Ward and John Grahame will man the posts between the posts for Carolina heading into October as newcomer, Michael Leighton was sent down to the minors. Ward is the clear number one for the Hurricanes and should see a few more than the 60 games that he played in last season, as he's becoming accustomed to the NHL way of life in the regular season.
Also being cut from the 'Canes was Trevor Gilles (minors) and Brandon Sutter (juniors). Both players were looking quite strong in the preseason, but didn't fit the team's plans heading into the season. Next season, however, should be Sutter's season to excel and could very well be worthy of some Calder and Pool consideration.
