Last Night's Notable Preseason Players (Sep 18)

R.J. Umberger had a pair of assists in the Flyers 3-2 win over the Devils. The revamped Flyer team could be quite dominant offensively with some of their new acqusitions. But it will be some of the older faces that may benefit the most from having some new blood on the team. Scottie Upshall scored from Simon Gagne and Daniel Briere last night as well. More good news for the Flyers fans in Philly.

The Devils had a player with multiple points last night. Defenseman, Andrew Greene, had a goal and an assist in the third period for the Devils. Greene played in 26 games last season, getting 6 points, and may be considered a sleeper in most cases. As of today, he does have an inside track for a job on the blueline for the Devils.

Joseph Crabb made an impact against the Islanders last night, in the Thrashers' 4-3 overtime win last night. The 24 year old forward scored one in the first and one in the second. Garney Exelby scored the overtime winner for the Thrashers and made good use of his hands, instead of using it for the rough stuff.

Also scoring a pair of goals, Islander forward Matthew Spiller tallied last night. Spiller spent all of last season in the minors and wants to make it big, like everyone else. Spiller is somewhat of a long-shot to make the Islanders, but he is a new name to consider.

Sidney Crosby re-assumed his position on the score sheet last night. He had a goal and an assist against the Canadiens in a 3-2 loss. Is he your desired first pick? The poll in the upper left hand corner suggests that you do.

The Canadiens have high hopes for Andrei Kostitsyn and he showed off a lot of his skills. A goal and an assist for the young Russian should be a good indicator for qualification into your pool team list. He could be a sneaky pick in the late rounds for those looking for one.

The Oilers got big things from their Swedish prospect, Jonas Almtorp. Almtorp scored a pair of goals and added an assist in their 5-4 win. Almtorp wasn't really on the radar to make the team, but with more performances like that, he'll be easy to add to the line-up. Marty Reasoner also added 3 assists for the Oilers, which ups the hope in Oiler camp that he'll have a bigger year than last.

Gregory Campbell had a big third period as he tried to help the Panthers come back against Edmonton, but even his goal and two assists were not enough. Campbell played in 79 games last season and only had 9 points, so this must be a good sign for the Panthers organization as he's been in the system for some time now.
