The Canucks will have their highest-priced free-agent acquisiton sitting on the shelf for a couple weeks due to some necessary surgery. Defenseman, Aaron Miller, who signed a 1-year, $1.5 milllion deal over the summer, was recommended for minor abdominal surgery this week. Management is saying that the surgery is minor and that the recovery time is only two weeks.
Miller isn't necessarily a pool commodity, only 8 points in all 82 games last season, but his time off will give some more ice-time to the battle for a blueline spot. Alexander Edler and Luc Bourdon are the two horses vying to make the jump to the big club this season and everyone thought that it would more than likely be in the seventh defenseman spot. However, with more ice-time in camp, it opens the door for a bit more time to impress and the thought process may change.
