In a Twitter update this morning, Dallas beat writer Mark Stepneski relayed an update from Stars management on a pair of their big stars, Jamie Benn and Ales Hemsky, who each had hip surgery in the off-season.
In essence, both players were considered to be on track in their recovery and the plan going forward is for each to possibly get a preseason game in before the end of the schedule, but they likely won't see any action in the team's first four or five games. These guys should be on your radar for the draft this season.
On the weekend, the Detroit Red Wings announced that Johan Franzen has been cleared to resume playing after a long, hard battle against post-concussion syndrome.
Franzen was limited to only 33 games last season, where he had already amassed 22 points, so his production was going in the right direction at the time of his injury. Still, his injury prone status will make him a marked man at the draft, one that I would personally stay away from, but could be a good late round gamble, if you ever needed one.
He has already been in the informal skates with teammates, so he's progressing the right way for opening night.
