The Hockey News has New Jersey Devils forward Reid Boucher projected at 25 points for the coming season, but that could be in jeopardy to start the year, as the 22-year old forward has suffered a concussion in the team's participation in the Prospects Challenge, hosted by the Buffalo Sabres.
Last season, Boucher played in 11 games with the club, scoring 1 goal and is poised to possibly take one of the available spots on the team's forward lines as a regular. The early projections, before the cuts start happening in camp, show the Devils with only nine forwards, so there are jobs to be had.
Right now, he'll have to go through the NHL concussion protocol, which will keep him off the ice for at least a week, while camps open up this weekend. His timetable for a return to the ice will be determined after the first week.
Questions already abound about the Tampa Bay Lightning goaltending situation, with Andrei Vasilevskiy on the shelf for a few months and Ben Bishop not quite 100%, the next in line, Kristers Gudlevskis doesn't need any injury concerns of his own. Unfortunately, that isn't up to him, as he left today's rookie tournament game in the 1st period, favouring his arm.
As of now, the Lightning have said that he will be re-evaluated tomorrow, upper-body injury.
The Ottawa Senators revealed their training camp roster on Tuesday, which had three injuries listed on it, most notably defenseman Chris Phillips, who hasn't exactly been pool worthy for a while, but gets a mention anyways today.
Phillips was only good for 3 assists in 12 games for Ottawa last season, plagued by injury, including the last 28 regular season games and all the playoff games, due to an undisclosed injury at the time. As it turned out, it was a back injury, which required surgery in the off-season. Last week, the Senators did reveal that Phillips would likely miss the better part of training camp, requiring extra time for his rehab.
With defensemen as popular as they are in the pool, Phillips' injury is worth noting to those who are scraping the bottom of the barrel, looking for a good sleeper pick. It isn't going to be him.
