Recent Contract Extensions (Sep 8)

Possibly, one of the more sleepy defensive sleepers for the coming season, Columbus' David Savard, has already earned a fair bit of praise, culminating in a new 5-year contract extension, announced first thing Monday morning.

The 24-year old blueliner emerged on the scene in Columbus in the 2012 season, becoming a full-time player in 2014 and really started to make his mark last season, picking up 11 goals and 36 points in all 82 games for the club.

Savard was scheduled to become a restricted free agent next July, but this 5-year extension will take him through the 2021 season.  His cap hit for the 2016 season is only $1.3 million, but his new extension will give him a significant raise, bumping him up to $4.25 million, starting in the 2017 season.

His off-season projections have him anywhere in the 31-to-40 point range, so he could be a prized possession this year.
