Waiver Claims (Sep 27)
The Tampa Bay Lightning went to address their goaltending situation on the weekend and they tapped the New York Islanders for some help, claiming Kevin Poulin off the wire, as he was placed on waivers for the purpose of being sent down to the AHL.
Poulin is a cheap option for the Lightning, who may not have been happy with contract talks with Ray Emery, who is there on a PTO and released shortly after the claim. Poulin has been toiling around the Islanders organization for a few years, rarely making appearances with the big club and not really a pool option.
He may not be a pool option again this year, but it does signal how bad the Lightning's goalie situation may be, between Ben Bishop and Andrei Vasilevskiy, who are projected to be the team's top two at some point this year.
