Last Night's Preseason Performers (Sep 28)
Hockey Night in Newfoundland on Sunday afternoon/evening... the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes were on the docket for some preseason action.
It wasn't much for this blog post, but hopefully it was a good night on the Rock. A 2-1 Carolina win was the final result and the only notable player in the game for the post was Cam Ward, who made 26 saves for the win.
Ward is trying to hold on to the number one job in Carolina, having Eddie Lack breathing down his neck likely isn't helping his cause much.
The Minnesota Wild laid a solid beating, a preseason beating at that, on the Winnipeg Jets, 8-1 on Sunday night.
It was a big night for Matt Dumba, who led the Wild with 2 goals and 2 assists in the win, while Zach Parise and Nino Niederreiter each had a goal and 2 assists and then Charlie Coyle, Mikko Koivu and Jonas Brodin each had one and one. That's a pretty solid night on the offensive side of the ledger.
Let's not forget another preseason mention for Devan Dubnyk, who made 18 saves for the win.
The Florida Panthers gave a much better effort in this preseason, giving a good showing in Dallas against the Stars.
Jussi Jokinen had a goal and an assist, while Vincent Trocheck and Dimitri Kulikov each added a pair of assists in the win. The number one in town, Roberto Luongo, made 20 saves for the win, as he got his toes dipped into some full time play.
