Recent Contract Extensions (Sep 20)

Reports started to surface on Saturday afternoon about a new contract extension for Edmonton Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom. Klefbom, just about to start the final year of his entry-level deal, has been getting some rave reviews for his play in the early portions of his career and you can tell that the organization is all over those reviews, as they signed up their young Swedish defender to a 7-year contract extension, essentially skipping the bridge contract altogether.

When the extension kicks in, it is said to be worth $4.167 million per season, a hefty sum for a player who hasn't played an entire season in the NHL yet.

Last season, Klefbom appeared in 60 games for the Oilers, picking up 2 goals and 20 points in those games, which actually got him into 96th overall among all defensemen in scoring.

This year, expectations are quite high, depending on who you talk to, as Sportsnet believes his points ceiling is up around the 40-point plateau, while most everyone else, doesn't have him cracking 30 points.  Nevertheless, the Oilers are expecting big things from this Swede, through the 2023 season.
