Week Eight Waiver Mock Draft

Thanks to that pesky World Cup of Hockey, the NHL season has been condensed by a week, so I had decided that moving the Waiver Draft up in the first segment was far more beneficial to teams early on, than shortening up the third segment of the season. Let's have more weeks for these replacement players to play and less weeks for the injured players to sit around and do nothing.

There was also a second change to the Waiver Draft and that is a rule change to picking up dropped players.  Any player dropped in a round, will not be eligible to be picked up until the next round.  When Wes dropped Jeff Carter in last year's draft to go full-on in the PIM pool, that was a gift of points to the next team in line and that, to me, circumvented the fairness of the draft.  He had every right to make that move, but the rest of the teams didn't get a crack at him, especially the teams below him that could have used the points more.

Of course, if your team is dealing with injuries during the week of the Waiver Draft, you will be able to make moves in a third round, if needed, but you will only be able to drop injured players and the third round will be as time permits.  Usually, the Waiver Draft takes the entire week, some days are certainly better than others, but if we finish the second round in good time, those injured players still on your roster, will be eligible to be moved.  Players in juniors or the minors, will not be eligible in the third round.
