Matthews to Miss a Month

The Toronto Maple Leafs didn't exactly get the best of news on Monday morning, as the shoulder injury that Auston Matthews suffered over the weekend against the Winnipeg Jets will keep him out for at least four weeks. The team placed the high-scoring forward on the Injured Reserve on Monday morning and they will open up Week Five against the Flames tonight without him.

Even though the depth of the Toronto lineup is far more prepared than any other year in recent memory, the loss of Matthews will be a tough blow to the team, especially given his numbers.  In 11 games this season, Matthews has 10 goals and 16 points, good enough for 7th overall in hockey pool scoring.

Undoubtedly, this is going to hurt Benson's team going forward, as he is now losing his best player for the next four weeks and his team has already started to slip down the standings, after starting the year in 1st place after the first couple of weeks, dropping down to 4th in Week Four.  In order to recover that position, Benson was going to need the aid of his 1st round draft pick (9th overall) to get him there.  Now, he has to hope that the rest of his team can carry the load and at least keep his team close for Matthews' return.
