The Hurricanes will be without their number one goalie, Cam Ward, for about a week with what is believed to be a minor groin injury. Ward was lost to the team on Sunday, when they lost to Anaheim. In his place, Michael Leighton will get the starts for Carolina and the team recalled Justin Peters to back him up until Ward is healthy again.
This season, Ward has struggled with consistency and hasn't had the number of starts that the number one goalie should have by this time in the season. As a Draft pick of Wes', he has only amassed 8 wins and a shutout, which isn't great numbers for a second round pick this year. The Hurricanes, as a whole, have been rather mediocre this season as well, but the new coach will hopefully turn that ship around soon... for their sake.
