Well, according to the Week Nine poll earlier this season, the thought was that Mats Sundin would go to New York, rather than anywhere else. Wrong! Sundin, on Thursday, chose the Canucks and has likely signed a deal for the end of the year for about $10 million, in a pro-rated deal that could be worth about $5.6 million in his pocket at the end of the year.
There is no absolute timeline for when Sundin will make it into the Canucks' line-up, but it should be around the New Year flip on January 1st. The Canucks play on December 30th against the Flyers and on New Years Day in Nashville. It's anyone's guess today on when he'll join the Canucks, but should make an impact right away.
It will be the Mats Sundin Sweepstakes for the second Waiver Draft this season, which Sundin should have a good number of games under his belt for the lowest team in the Draft and he could possibly give that team a boost to being a little closer to being out of the basement. Then again... maybe not.
