Voting for the 2012 All-Star Game has ceased and on Thursday morning, the NHL announced the the six starters for the game in Ottawa this year and (surprise, surprise) it is filled with Senators.
The forwards will be comprised of Daniel Alfredsson, Milan Michalek and Jason Spezza, while Erik Karlsson and Dion Phaneuf were named the starting defensemen and Tim Thomas was voted as a starting goalie.
Of course, with the mix of two conferences and the player draft to happen again, the voting was for only one starting line-up, which will likely spread over the two draft-determined teams for the event.
All-Star Weekend is scheduled to begin on January 26th, when the Fantasy Draft is scheduled to occur, with the game set to go on that Sunday, the 29th. The Skills Competition will be on the Saturday, to round out the normal proceedings of the weekend. I would imagine that the remaining players for the game will be announced on that Monday, maybe the weekend before, just to keep us all in suspense.
Out of the six starters, Clayton C. leads the draft pool with two of the six (Alfredsson and Karlsson), while Wes M. has Thomas, John P. has Spezza, Stacey C. has Phaneuf and Peter H. has Michalek. Of course, when the rest of the team is announced, the draft pool will be laid out, front and centre, to compare teams and how they've done.
