Since the Dallas Stars are only playing one game this week, it didn't seem like such a bad thing to put their captain Brenden Morrow on the Injured Reserve (retroactive to Saturday), since he won't be playing in the All-Star Game and the team won't play again until after the break. Morrow reportedly suffered an upper-body injury on Saturday, which will keep him out of Tuesday's game, at home to the Ducks.
Morrow's inclusion on the IR has to stretch for a week, so retroactively placing him on the list will make sure he is eligible for a return when their season restarts on Wednesday, February 1st. I would imagine that Morrow will be re-evaluated closer to that date to make sure he is good to go.
The captain hasn't been terribly productive for his team this year, only picking up 8 goals and 14 assists in 41 games for the club, scoring just over a half a point-per-game this year. That is only good enough for 216th overall in pool scoring, which should still be good for being pool-worthy, but the team needs him to lead by example, especially in these tough times that have seen the team drop down out of the playoff picture. An extended break may help him recharge the engines for a good stretch drive.
It sounds like the Stars are only expecting Morrow to be out for the single game, which won't help Benson G. too much, but it certainly won't hinder him too badly, given the likelihood that Morrow wouldn't register a point in the upcoming game any way. Benson goes into the All-Star shortened week in 8th place, 11 points out of the money, which is more than attainable with a third of the season left to go.
