A couple of notes for the Washington Capitals, as they were without forward Alex Semin for their game against the Flames, due to some neck pains, and then in the game, they lost the services of Nicklas Backstrom, after he took an elbow to the head from Calgary forward Rene Bourque.
Semin was scratched from the game early on in the day on Tuesday, citing the neck issues. There was no word about when or where he suffered the injury, but he is considered day-to-day for right now, so there doesn't seem to be any long-term concern there.
Backstrom is currently being monitored by the team, waiting to see if there are any concussion symptoms stemming from the hit to the head. Backstrom did manage to go back out on the ice for two shifts after he was hit, but he was shut down as a precautionary measure. This doesn't sound very good for Backstrom and if this gets to be any worse, you will hear it here.
As for the pool, Dale C. has Semin and Scott G. has Backstrom this year and both are slowing down in the standings at the moment. Dale currently sits in 5th place and has 6th place gaining ground on him this week, while Scott has seen some drops over the last seven weeks.
