Clipping Results in 5 Games for Marchand

On Monday afternoon, the NHL Department for Player Safety came down on Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand, who received a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for clipping Canucks defenseman Sami Salo, resulting in a concussion on the play. In the video below, Brendan Shanahan outlines the reasons for the somewhat lengthy ban.

Marchand will be eligible to re-join the Bruins line-up on January 19th, when the team visits the Devils in New Jersey.

ImplicationsThis season has not been good for Leon G., who has Marchand in the draft this year.  Leon has been battling a number of injury problems throughout his line-up, with a team that currently ranks 21st in games played for his skaters at only 386.  He was just finding himself on the right side of being healthy for the first time in quite a while, but another injury to Mike Green and now this suspension may keep him from getting anywhere near the pool average mark for skater games this season.

Going into Monday night's action, Leon sits in 17th place, 6 points back of 16th and 7 points up on 18th.
