Ovechkin Given 3 Games

The NHL has come down on Washington Capitals star forward Alex Ovechkin for his charge on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Zbynek Michalek, by giving the Russian winger a 3-game suspension for the hit. There was no penalty on the play during the game, but conclusive video evidence was reviewed after the fact and was deemed worthy of supplemental discipline. I have attached the NHL video below to give you a better understanding of the infraction.

Ovechkin will miss this week's game against the Boston Bruins, next Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Wednesday's game against the Florida Panthers.  As per the NHL, Ovechkin will still be eligible to play in the All-Star Game.

ImplicationsThis is the sort of thing that will get Ryan M. a better pick in next week's waiver draft. Ryan is hanging on to Ovechkin this season and he is closing in on a top 10 spot.  Going into the week, Ryan only sits 17 points out of the top 10 with another segment left to go in the season.  Missing out on three games will take a few points away from his chase.
