Caps Place Burakovsky on IR
The players are filling up the Injured Reserve in a big hurry these days, aren't they? The Capitals announced on Tuesday morning that they have placed forward Andre Burakovsky on the IR and they recalled forward Chandler Stephenson to take his spot for the next week or so, as the injured Burakovsky deals with an upper-body injury.
The 22-year old suffered the injury on Saturday night against the Panthers and some of the early reports on Monday, said the coaching staff was expecting him to miss some time and the placement on the Injured Reserve confirms that. Burakovsky won't be eligible to come off until Saturday and until we get confirmation of what the injury is, we'll probably have to hold back on our expectations.
Burakovsky hasn't been snapping up a lot of the scoring that the Capitals have been doing to start the season, as he only has a goal and 3 assists in nine games, which as of Tuesday morning, is good enough for 225th in pool scoring this season.
For Ryan, this is his second player on the IR in less than a week, which is a good kick in the pants, but he still has plenty of opportunity for points, still leaving 41 projected games among his remaining 12 players on his team. Burakovsky was his 9th round pick, 218th overall, so he was just getting the perfect value for his guy, but that value is going to slip in the next week or more.
