2018 6th Round Draft Pick |
Well, the Golden Knights are officially on the Malcolm Subban train, as they have shipped former backup goalie Calvin Pickard to the Maple Leafs, stockpiling more assets for their future days. Pickard successfully cleared waivers on Friday, meaning that any team that picked him up, could ship him down to the minors without fear that he would be scooped up for nothing in the process. So, the Maple Leafs, who had some questionable depth at the position, picked up the 25-year old for next to nothing, a prospect and a late round pick, and then turned around and put him down with the Marlies in the AHL right away.
Of course, this is very disappointing for Steve, one of a newcomers to the pool, as the draft suggested that he would be getting a decent number two goalie for an expansion team that might give him a run in a few more games, than he might have seen with an established team. Pickard will start with the Marlies and will be close by, if Frederik Andersen or Curtis McElhinney get hurt or start to falter with the big club, but that's a lot of hoping and wishing that needs to happen, in order for Steve to stay in the conversation of the goalie survivor pool now too.
