The Colorado Avalanche added some defensive toughness on Wednesday, signing Shane O'Brien to a 1-year, $1.1 million deal. O'Brien played in 80 regular season games with the Nashville Predators in 2011, scoring 2 goals and adding 7 assists. O'Brien is a tough customer, but he is also a bit of a liability on the ice, but in some cases, he does serve a purpose.
The addition of O'Brien to the Avalanche roster will now bump Jonas Holos from the list, but it will be a tight competition for jobs, especially if Kyle Quincey can come back to 100% from a shoulder injury in the 2012 season.
