After acquiring Jakub Voracek from the Blue Jackets in the deal that sent Jeff Carter out of town, the Flyers had to sign him to a new deal, as Voracek approached free agency. On Friday, the Flyers managed to lock up their new centre, signing him to a 1-year deal that will pay him $2.25 million.
In 2011, Voracek started to come out of his offensive shell, picking up 14 goals and 32 assists in 80 games with the Jackets, but a defensive system really stifled the creativity of the 21-year old Czech and the lack of talent linemates didn't help too much either. Thankfully for Voracek, the move to Philadelphia may have opened the door for a few more points in the 2012 season.
With signing only a 1-year deal, the Flyers are not risking too much on him and at the same token, if Voracek can have the breakout season we're all waiting for, his asking price could sky rocket.
