2012 4th Round Draft Pick |
After signing Tomas Kaberle to a new deal, the Hurricanes have dealt offensive defenseman Joe Corvo to the Bruins for a mid-round draft pick.
The Bruins ended up losing out on re-signing Kaberle in this off-season, so they did the next best thing and acquired another puck moving defenseman to help fill the void. Fortunately, the team that ended up signing Kaberle, found themselves with a glutton of puck moving defensemen and decided to help the Bruins out.
The Hurricanes were able to get a decent draft pick in a salary dump deal, so it ended up being an okay transaction for them as well.
With Kaberle on the books in Carolina and now Corvo in Boston, we will have a quick peek at the salary cap numbers that are in place. The Hurricanes now have 19 players signed on for the 2012 season for $44.2 million, while the Bruins have 19 players signed on for $53 million. Two very different budgeted teams.
