Last Summer, it took until the 6th of July before the Oilers signed 2010 1st overall pick, Taylor Hall. The Summer of 2011 saw it only take until the 2nd of July for the Oilers to sign 2011 1st overall pick, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers waste no time with their young prospects, which almost seems like an understatement, doesn't it?
Nugent-Hopkins signed the maximum entry-level deal, which will pay him a maximum salary of $925,000 per season, but will also have some of the maximum entry-level bonuses, which will likely lift his salary cap hit potential to well over $3 million for the season. Of course, his cap hit will only be applied to the Oilers' calculations if he can make it onto the roster after training camp.Will Nugent-Hopkins make the roster in his first go after training camp? I would like to think he will. The Oilers were not afraid to have Hall, Jordan Eberle and Magnus Paajarvi all jump in at the same time and adding another offensively gifted player like Nugent-Hopkins down the middle, it should only boost his confidence, although it will likely decrease the defensive capability of the unit on the ice for the first year or so.
