On Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed a pair of restricted free agent forwards in Clarke MacArthur and Tyler Bozak. MacArthur and the Leafs avoided arbitration with a new 2-year deal, reportedly worth $6.5 million, while Bozak also signed a 2-year deal, his said to be worth $3 million. With these two signings, the Leafs could now technically ice a squad for opening night of the regular season.
MacArthur had a breakout season with the Maple Leafs, after he was entrusted with a lot more top-six ice-time with the team. In all 82 games in 2011, MacArthur picked up 21 goals and 41 assists, ranking 60th overall in scoring, 42nd among all forwards. A very impressive season, to say the least.
Bozak, on the other hand, had an okay season in 2011, also playing in all 82 games, scoring 15 goals and 17 assists. Unfortunately, his numbers did not qualify him to be in the top 160 forwards, where the cut-off would be for drafting in the 2012 hockey pool.
With these two signed on, this now brings the Leafs up to 12 forwards, six defense and a goaltending tandem, coming in at $55.6 million, projected for next season. This leaves the team plenty of room to possibly add another forward and defenseman on the roster with $8.7 million.
