On Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia Flyers announced that both Kimmo Timonen and Andrej Meszaros will be out of the line-up for an indefinite period of time, due to lower-body injuries. Neither defenseman were able to dress for the Flyers on Sunday evening for their tilt against the Capitals and it sounds like both could be out of the line-up for a while.
Heading into Week Twenty-Three, Timonen was ranked 14th among all defensemen in scoring with 2 goals and 34 assists in 63 games with the Flyers, which is actually a pretty good season mark to be at. He will certainly be missed on the Flyers' power play and all around the ice.
As for Meszaros, he is ranked 37th in defensemen scoring with 7 goals and 18 assists in 62 games for the club, as he has also been a very productive member of the Flyers blueline this season.
With Timonen and Carle out of the line-up, that just leaves Matt Carle to lead the way, who has 32 points in 64 games this season, good enough for 19th in defensemen scoring. The Flyers have had a lot of offense from their blueline this year, despite not having Chris Pronger in for the bulk of the year, but they have found a way to keep up the numbers.
In the draft, this will hurt Stuart G. a fair bit, who leads the pool in defensemen scoring in the pool, as he has Timonen. Stuart's blueline scoring has been a huge reason as to why he's in 3rd spot going into Week Twenty-Three. Meszaros belongs to Jani K., who currently sits in 9th, 27 points out of the money and his team has taken a big hit with the injury. This could be trying times for both pool teams down the stretch, depending on how long each of them are out.
