It's hard to say, whether or not this is a sign of bad news for Rick Nash and his ankle injury, but the Blue Jackets have called up Nikita Filatov, a day after assigning him to the AHL after the World Juniors tournament. The Blue Jackets are likely hoping that this call up is only a short-term solution, as Filatov only has 5 games left before his NHL contract officially kicks in.
Filatov, a former Draft pick of Chris' this season, has played 4 games with the Blue Jackets, registering a goal. His recent scoring success and Bronze Medal at the World Juniors is definitely one of the leading reasons for his call-up in this time of injury. In the tournament, he was tied for the lead in goals with 8 and finished the tournament with 11 points, as he captained Russia through the medal rounds.
If Nash is out long-term, which will be updated as soon as we know, Filatov may have to burn a year on his contract to help fill the offensive gap left behind. He should be brimming with confidence as he re-joins the Blue Jackets, so keep an eye on him for your Waiver Draft pick.
