With the impending return of Roberto Luongo to the Canucks' line-up on Thursday night, the team had to decide upon the goaltending situation, as they will have three goalies on the roster. Today, the Canucks placed Curtis Sanford on waivers in order to move him off the active roster, keeping Jason LaBarbera on the active roster as Luongo's back-up.
Sanford, 29, was signed on in Vancouver as a free-agent last season and had taken the number one job when Luongo went down with his groin injury. In 19 appearances this season, Sanford has only managed 7 wins, including 1 shutout. He was picked up in the Waiver Draft by Ryan and managed to pick up 10 points.
Sanford does have a good chance at getting picked up by another team, as there are teams in need of some goaltending help and his $650,000 cap hit should be appealing to the team that picks him up.
