Penguins Acquire Garon

It's a good way to start a Saturday morning, seeing a trade go down. The Pittsburgh Penguins did more to upgrade their goaltending depth, as they made a back-up swap with the Edmonton Oilers. The Penguins acquired Mathieu Garon from the Oilers, who had lost the number one job to Dwayne Roloson, in order to back-up (or start for) Marc-Andre Fleury heading down the stretch. In return, the Penguins sent Dany Sabourin, their former back-up goalie, a prospect centre and a pick. It's a pretty big deal today, but it still leaves the Oilers with three goalies in their system, as Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers has been up with the club again.

I suppose the next thing we could look at is how it affects the Draft this season. The only player in the Draft in this deal is Mathieu Garon, who is a Draft pick of Dennis'. He brings some more experience to the Pittsburgh crease, but it doesn't exactly guarantee him any more starts than he would get with Edmonton, but if Fleury starts to falter a little, look for Garon to give him a push, by taking a few starts away, especially if he can win a few of them.
