The Lightning have made a claim for Cory Murphy, who was placed on re-entry waivers by the Panthers, in hopes that he would move and get some playing time elsewhere. The Box 29 defenseman was the odd-man out of a Panthers line-up, which was getting healthier, as he was getting healthy again. The Lightning are still looking for more help to try and salvage something out of this season and Murphy could be the kind of guy who would benefit from some ice-time across the State.
Murphy is on the final year of his current deal, which has a cap hit of $825,000. The Lightning will only have to commit to half of the remaining salary of the season, which should be in the $200,000 neighbourhood. The Lightning have plenty of room for Murphy against the cap this season and they might not be done yet this season.
