It has been some year already for the Montreal Canadiens and we're only heading into the New Year, not even halfway through the season yet. The team has already seen more than it's fair share of injuries and the parade to the infirmary continues on, as they try and continue making their way to the playoffs. Here, we'll update you on some of the new news affecting the team.
It looks like Carey Price is back on the shelf with what is described as a re-aggravation of his previous lower body injury. Price missed time already with this injury and is expected to rest for the next week or so, although the team says he's out on a day-to-day basis. As Grant's first round pick, Price has appeared in 25 games for Montreal, winning 16 of them and is currently second on the pool team with 35 points this year. Missing time now is diminishes Grant's chances of getting out of last place in the Draft.
Also putting a major damper on Grant's success is Alex Tanguay's shoulder injury, which is now expected to keep the centre out for up to six weeks. Tanguay was hurt on Tuesday in the Habs' game against Tampa Bay and was not able to return to the game. It looks like it's a shoulder separation, which has become a pretty popular injury in the league this year. Tanguay was Grant's second best forward before the injury with 26 points in 36 games.
To combat these injuries, the team announced that they had called up four players, including Box 25 forward, Kyle Chipchura, who has been a bit of a yo-yo lately, coming up and going back down, not seeing much game action with the big club, as of yet. Look for Jaroslav Halak to get more starts in Price's absence and Chipchura may actually figure into a game here this weekend.
