In the tight parity system of the NHL, I always find it rather odd to see inter-divisional trades in the league, but here we have one. Jussi Jokinen had fallen out of favour in Tampa Bay and the Lightning were looking for ways to move him, placing him on waivers earlier in the week. The Hurricanes were not going to bite on waivers, but they were able to move a couple players and a pick for the Finnish winger.
Jokinen, a Draft pick of Derek's, hasn't had the best of seasons with the Lightning, but he should be able to provide some good depth to the Hurricanes, who have begun to see injuries pile up again. Jokinen will also be a free agent at the end of the year.
