Well, this isn't a trade, nor is it really a direct effect to the pools, but the Blue Jackets decided on picking up some more depth at centre by claiming Chris Gratton off of waivers. Gratton was property of the Lightning, but hasn't been a part of the team for quite a while. In 18 games with the Lightning, Gratton has only registered 2 assists, but he could figure to be a prominent third or fourth line centre down the stretch for the Blue Jackets.
Well, Gratton won't likely help too many players offensively, but he could have an effect on whether or not the Blue Jackets can play a bit better defensively, which could pot another few more points in Steve Mason's coffers.
Another benefit to this deal for Columbus is that it's a claim on re-entry waivers, so Gratton comes to town for half price. Gratton isn't an expensive player to begin with, but it does help when you don't have to shell out the whole paycheque. Gratton has an annual salary cap hit of $1.25 million.
