Well, I am totally unprepared to be a monkey's uncle, but it looks like I might be, as I have read that the Blues have decided to place Manny Legace on waivers in order to ship him down to Peoria of the AHL. This comes as a pretty big shock, despite the fact that the Blues are well out of the playoff race with just over nine weeks to go in the season, but fortunately for Legace, he may be considered good enough to be claimed by another club, as he only carries an annual salary cap hit of $2.15 million and he's an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.
Legace, a Draft pick of our pool leader, John B., has played mildly well on a non-playoff team, winning 13 games, but has no shutouts or assists for more pool points. John obviously hasn't been leaning on Legace for big points, but if he heads to the minors, he won't be worth any points in the end.
We will find out in 24 hours, if he gets claimed or sent down to the AHL, but I would imagine he would get claimed and a team like Calgary could use a keeper like Legace to back up Miikka Kiprusoff for the stretch run and be there as an insurance policy for the team. Detroit has also been unhappy with Chris Osgood and a guy like Legace could be a good replacement for some serious minutes. With teams looking to sure up their goaltending before the playoffs, a discounted Legace should sound rather appealing.
