The Blues made sure to secure one of their important building blocks for the future, as they signed Andy McDonald to a new 4-year contract extension, which keeps him in the fold through the 2012/'13 season. The deal is reportedly worth $18.8 million over the four seasons, which means a cap hit of $4.7 million over those years. Depending on his health issues, this could definitely be a great deal for the Blues, as they could have a top-line forward for less than $5 million per season.
McDonald, a Draft pick of Wes (then dropped, then picked up again by Wes), has been dealing with a broken leg, but is on his way back to the ice. He has only played 16 games for St. Louis before breaking his leg, but he registered 18 points in that time, scoring at a pace of 1.13 ppg.
There is a chance that McDonald could be in the Blues' line-up as early as tomorrow night, as the Canucks come to visit St. Louis.
