To Vancouver | Age | GP/MIN | Points | Cap Hit |
Nathan McIver, D | 24 | 18 | 1 | $523,000 |
Originally claimed by the Ducks from Vancouver at the beginning of the season, Nathan McIver is a hired goon in the league and he was sent back to the Canucks for yet another goon, Mike Brown. The difference here is that they are swapping a defenseman for a forward, which just gives some added toughness to a new position for each side. As it's laid out above, there really isn't too much to this trade, but it is the second deal swung by Anaheim today, who also acquired Sheldon Brookbank from the Devils, who is also a goon on the backend. That likely made McIver expendible today, which also made room for Brown, who can throw fists up front instead of on the backend. Vancouver was likely happy to oblige, as they wanted to have some more toughness on the blueline, giving Shane O'Brien the gears for his lack of physical play. This looks to be a win-win on both sides.
