Afternoon Player Notes in the Draft (Nov 12)
This morning, with the acquisition of goalie Kevin Poulin from the Lightning, the Flames offered up an update on Jonas Hiller, who is dealing with a hip problem and is currently on the Injured Reserve. Calgary management said today that Hiller was progressing well and that they would expect him back on the ice in 7-to-10 days, which will likely open up the goaltending questions again, but with Karri Ramo running with the job now, the dynamic of the question has changed since the first time around.
Nevertheless, Hiller's involvement is an important issue for Grant, who's team is still struggling and only 6 points from the basement. Not only will he need a return to the ice, he'll need a return to form as well.
It sounds like we're drawing ever closer to the return of Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk, who could be ready to go, as soon as tomorrow (Friday) night. Datsyuk underwent off-season ankle surgery and his recovery was going to lead well into the regular season and we're roughly inside the window of his recovery time, as he has been skating for a couple of weeks already. His return will be a big boost to the Red Wings, who haven't been all that terrible without him, but could be that much better with him.
Cindy's team took an enormous risk, taking the injured Datsyuk in the 4th round of the draft, 100th overall and he has a lot of points to make up to be worth that pick's value. Before Thursday's action, the 100th ranked player in pool scoring, Toronto's Morgan Rielly, has 11 points in 15 games.
