Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Nov 12)

Not every European rookie is going to produce the same way, but I guess that goes for just about every rookie.  Sergei Plotnikov has continued to struggle with the Pittsburgh Penguins, despite coming over with a fair bit of intrigue in the off-season.  On Wednesday night, he was a healthy scratch again for the Pens, having only 2 assists in 11 games so far this season.

Given that John R. was looking for a good sleeper pick in the last round of the draft, it was likely worth his while to try out a young Russian winger heading to the Penguins, but his shortcomings were all a part of the risk of taking him.  So, the 376th overall pick is now ranked 534th, so there is a definite deficit there.

On Wednesday afternoon/evening, the Colorado Avalanche announced that they recalled goaltender Calvin Pickard ahead of Thursday night's game in Boston, as Semyon Varlamov is currently dealing with a groin issue and he has now been put on the news page as being out day-to-day right now.  There is no full update from the team, except that the recall was needed, so we'll see how long this one lasts.

Already out of the goalie survivor pool, Kristy & Don have bigger prizes to worry about this year.  The pool's first duo and reigning champs are currently in 19th place in the standings, 29 points out of the money, so losing their number one keeper is not what they're in need of.  It may be too late to start investing in rookies and their team isn't full of goons, so they'll have to pull off a clever move at the Waiver Draft to recoup any losses this year.
