Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Nov 5)
After surrendering four goals in the first 18 minutes of the hockey game between the Blues and Blackhawks, St. Louis starter, Brian Elliott, was lifted from the game after suffering a blow to the head. There was no immediate word on the status of Elliott after the game or first thing on Thursday morning, but we'll wait and see if there are any call-ups to be made, a good indication about whether or not Elliott will miss time or not.
Grant has been trying to start climbing up the standings after a bit of a poor start, so he really can't afford to miss too much time from a goalie in a platoon situation, as it likely won't get much better for Elliott, who is seemingly giving up more and more time to last night's eventual winner, Jake Allen.
Vancouver forward Sven Baertschi spent Wednesday night's game against Pittsburgh in the press box, as he was determined to be the odd-man out with Christopher Higgins returning to the lineup and requiring a middle-six line spot. Baertschi has floated through the line combinations for the Canucks, only briefly finding some fluidity in the preseason, but has yet to find anything solid in the regular season yet.
Our pool leader, Neil, picked up Baertschi late on in the draft and he hasn't quite needed that gamble to pay off right away, since the rest of his team is doing just fine, but he might need Baertschi's offense, if the rest of the team goes cold for a little bit.
