Flyers Place Streit on the IR

The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Saturday morning that they have placed defenseman Mark Streit on the Injured Reserve, along with non-pool forward R.J. Umberger, as the veteran defender is dealing with a "pubic plate detachment."  The injury is thought to keep the 37-year old Swiss blueliner out for the next 4-to-6 weeks, starting with tonight's game in Carolina.

Streit has been decent for the Flyers to start the year, so it will be a fairly big hole to fill for the team.  At the time of the injury, Streit was ranked 170th overall in pool scoring, with 3 goals and 9 points in 16 games.

Mike has been battling some up-and-down luck, seemingly with a name on the injured list for the better part of the season.  His skater games played is still relatively reasonable, but it hasn't translated into goals or points for his team, as he goes into Saturday's action in 19th place, last in goals and 32 points out of the money.

Six weeks on the shelf will mean that Mike has a decision with Streit, on whether or not to keep him or drop him in a few weeks time, since the injury will overlap with the Waiver Draft.  He has been one of his better defensemen, but will there be anything on the list worth taking, if he wanted to drop him?
